Summer in Basye
Peak foliage, mountain dinners, crisp air, and quiet trails.

On the Mountain
Bryce Resort’s mountain is the centerpiece of Basye — and fall is one of the best times to be up there. Ride the chairlift for aerial views of the valley as it turns orange and red, hike the resort’s trail system through peak foliage, or just take in the ridge views without the ski crowds. The Dinners on the Mountain series even starts up here — a chairlift ride and a five-course meal with a view.
Hiking
Long days and warm mountain air make summer a great time to be on the trails. Get out early for the best conditions — the mornings are cool, the light is golden, and the views go on forever.

Runkles Gap Trail
A steady climb to ridge views — bring water, the exposed sections heat up by midday. Worth every step for the panoramic view at the top.

Lookout Mountain Trail
Follow the ridge for sweeping views across the Shenandoah Valley. Start early — the exposed sections get warm by midday, but the views are worth every step.

Stony Creek Valley Walk
An easy, flat walk through the valley floor with creek sounds and summer wildflowers all around. A great option if you have kids or just want a relaxed morning outside.

Outdoors
The mountain has plenty to keep you busy in summer. Here’s what’s worth your time this season.

Lake Laura
Lake Laura sits at the heart of the resort — swimming, kayaking, and paddleboarding on warm summer afternoons. Lifeguards are on duty during swim season, and gear rentals are available on-site.

Mountain Biking
The resort’s trail network winds through the mountain with routes for every level — from easy cruisers to more technical terrain. Rentals and trail maps available at the resort activity desk.

Golf & Tennis
Bryce Resort’s 18-hole course is one of the most scenic in the Shenandoah Valley — rolling mountain terrain, open fairways, and no crowds. Tennis courts and pickleball are available too. Check the resort’s calendar for open play times.

Local Sights
Basye’s small-town character shines in fall. These spots are worth a stop any time of year.

The Basye Gazebo
A beloved community landmark tucked in the heart of the neighborhood. A gathering spot, a photo backdrop — especially gorgeous surrounded by fall color.

Shrine Mont / Orkney Springs
A historic Episcopal retreat just minutes from Basye. The grounds are stunning any time of year — open meadows, old-growth trees, and a quiet that’s increasingly hard to find.

Basye Dog Park
Let your four-legged travel companions stretch their legs and make some new friends in the crisp fall air.

Basye Community Library
A tiny but mighty library run by the community, for the community. A reminder that small towns take care of their own.
